The Day I Rise

You think you are loved
But all who really loves you
Is the god above you

You would think home would be a safe place
But you always try to run away…
Like its a race…                                                                                                     Soon I will fly...

Run away from your home
When you are being hurt
Scared when you are left alone
Thinking he’s going to choke you and dangle you by your feet..                             I die….
You think why me? I don’t deserve to get hurt at all
I’m a human being.
I’m a person not a chuckie doll.                                                                                I cry…

I want to get away
I want to get help
But he threatens to beat me one day
And send me straight to hell

I cannot fight back with words or hands
Face it, it is not going to be an easy fight
Because I’m a girl, he’s a man.

Sometimes I wish I can take my own life
I suffer everyday in that home
I suffered just like Jesus Christ
But no one can hear me                                                                                        I’m all ALONE…

Ever since my mother had died, he blames me
For his mistakes
Because I came out a mixed baby, and not his race.                                            I wonder why…

There is not a day I wish I could die
Or be where my mother is up in the sky
He will beat me and torcher me till the day I die
But he will never take my Dignity or Pride

This is the day I RISE.

Dear Editor and Chief;

My name is Amber Rutledge. I am a sophomore at Early College High School in Myrtle Beach.

I am writing about the cause of discriminating against gay marriage. This is a problem in our world because most LGBT people (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans) don’t have the respect or same amount of rights as we do. You also get killed in other countries! They even have a less chance of getting a job or good education. Should we really discriminate against two people who love each other dearly? We should give them the rights and respect they need just like every other human beings. People get killed in other countries. Over 30% are LGBT and less than 25% have been killed. Tom Geohegan believes gays should have the right to be married. I agree with Tom because why can’t we let people be happy together? People say that it isn’t right. By saying that you’re basically saying it isn’t right to marry the love of your life.

Thank you so much for your time. I appreciate it and hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Amber

We are all the same but different personality
Should we discriminate against gay marriage? I personally believe that we shouldn’t. Why can’t we just let two people that love each other dearly, and have the right to get married just like every other citizen in this world? They are humans just like us and shouldn’t be treated differently just because they are; lesbian, gay, straight or bisexual. Many may say it’s not right. By saying that you’re basically saying it’s not right to love. People in Jamaica and other countries are getting killed because they are LGBT. Don’t you think that is an unnecessary reason to kill one of our own kinds just because they love the same sex? Help spread and get people to notice that being LGBT shouldn’t affect how others should be treated, but in fact the same rights as a person who loves someone of a different sex. That way everyone has their freedom to love and marry the love of their life, regardless if you’re LGBT or not.
Some research states that LGBT people should be able to love and marry who they want. In the article, “The LGBT people against marriage”, Tom Geoghegan, argues that LGBT people should marry who they want and be equal just like any other regular citizen. (pg. 1) Honestly, I agree with Tom and what he is arguing with because it’s not right for the same sex couple not to date, love, or even get married. 10 % males in the world are LGSBT and 2% are homosexual or bisexual. It’s not just in the U.S either it’s also in Jamaica women or especially men are getting killed because they are LGBT. It’s also a worldwide problem in other countries. In the article, “If you are gay in Jamaica you’re dead”, Diane Taylor discusses how men and women were brutally hurt, abused, or killed just for being gay. (pg1-4). This article made me tear up a little bit because killing your own kind is just ridiculous over the little fact of marrying someone they love. Over 30% are LGBT and less than 25 % have been killed. In other cases some are also less educated than others and are unable to get a job because they are LGBT. In 2011 56.7% of Americans in the United States were killed or abused because of the simple fact that they were LGBT. As of May 2011[update], 75 countries criminalize consensual sexual acts between adults of the same sex. They are punishable by death in eight countries: Iran, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Yemen, Nigeria, Gambia and Somalia. Africa, Asia, Caribbean, and Oceania were also criminalized but not punished to death by region. (pg.2)

As a human being and a civil person I disagree with the fact that saying gays can’t be together and be assassinated over the unnecessary cause. I want you to think about it as if you were in their shoes. What if you weren’t allowed to date people with different sex? You would fight for what is right wouldn’t you? Would you or would you don’t disagree with the fact that they are not allowing you to marry or even be happy with the person you love. They kill you in other countries for being a certain way. Shouldn’t that be enough? Why should we all just let people be who they want to be, love who they want to, and let them be happy? We should help spread and get people to notice that being gay shouldn’t affect how others should be treated but in fact the same rights as a person who loves someone with a different sex. That way everyone has their freedom to love and marry the love of their life, regardless if you’re LGBT or not.
